What is ZENworks Application Virtualisation

What is Application VirtualisationNovell ZENworks Application Visualisation is an easy-to-use solution that reduces the costs, complexity and time delays associated with application compatibility testing and management while maintaining endpoint security. What is Application Virtualisation?
Application Virtualisation allows the easy adoption of virtualised applications into existing IT environments. There are no additional agents or device drivers to support and no virtual machines to set up or manage. The virtual application consists of a single .exe file that runs completely self-contained and isolated from the PC’s operating system and registry. Each virtualised application is a compact package with all the application files, settings, runtimes and components needed to run immediately. Applications act just like they would if they were installed locally, but without changing the operating system, registry and run-time environments.

  • Eliminates compatibility problems when deploying applications on the latest operating systems, including running Microsoft Internet Explorer on Windows Vista
  • Allows conflicting software versions to run on the same machine
  • Minimises user impact by eliminating application setup and configuration

End-user issues when not virtualising applications

Desktop issues when not using virtualisationKeeping applications up to date in a distributed environment is extremely
difficult, resulting in:

  • Failed application installations
  • Too many images to maintain & patch
  • Application incompatibilities
  • Software & registry conflicts – often referred to as “DLL Hell.”
  • Contingency planning and execution

Benefits of using ZAV

  • Benefits of ZAVStop “DLL hell”
    • Each application can be completely isolated
    • Multiple versions of the same application can run/exist on a workstation
  • Cut IT testing/distribution cost and complexity
    • Eliminates testing and planning cycles
    • Ease deployment & upgrade burden
    • Instant contingency plan – run/swap the old & new
    • Distribute one file via ZENworks or thumb drive
    • Eliminates license reclamation
