New Product – Adaptec's Series 5Z Family of RAID Controllers

Adaptec Zero-Maintenance Cach Protection

Introducing Adaptec’s new Series 5Z Unified Serial® (SATA/SAS) RAID controllers with Zero-Maintenance Cache Protection (ZMCP – pronounced “zemcap”).

15 June 2009 – Adaptec: RAID controllers typically employ battery backup units (BBUs) to protect cached data, but BBUs require constant monitoring and expensive maintenance, and can only preserve data for a maximum of 72 hours during a power loss.

Adaptec’s new Zero-Maintenance Cache Protection eliminates BBUs in favor of 4GB of NAND flash memory to protect cached data and eliminate the installation, monitoring, maintenance, disposal, and replacement costs associated with BBUs.

The Adaptec Series 5Z controllers enable full protection within minutes of installation, instantly saves cached contents in the event of system power loss, and can preserve cached data for up to 10 years without power. And, since ZMCP is flash-based, systems don’t need to be shut down for battery replacement.

Continuing the legacy of Series 5
Like our Series 5 controllers, high-performance Adaptec Series 5Z controllers reach speeds up to five times faster than competing products. They support up to 256 SATA/SAS devices and strengthen Adaptec Intelligent Power Management by keeping low levels of I/O activity in the cache instead of spinning up the drives, resulting in big savings in storage power and cooling costs.

No maintenance. No fuss.
